April 2018 Meeting

Post date: Apr 29, 2018 6:36:12 PM

The April 2018 Haiku Northwest meeting was held on the 26th at the Redmond Library with fifteen people in attendance: Laura Lee Bennett, Terran Campbell, Gary Evans, Seren Fargo, Ida Freilinger, Dianne Garcia, Katharine Grubb, Trish Knox, Curtis Manley, Tanya McDonald, Michelle Schaefer, Ron Swanson, Angie Terry, Tyler (no last name given), and Michael Dylan Welch. Angie discussed the upcoming Pacific Northwest regional Haiku Society of America meeting to be held the weekend of June 8 to 10, and Tanya talked about her June 6 haiku workshop at the Woodinville Library. Michael then facilitated a group interaction and workshop designed for first-timers in attendance, focusing on things that make us happy and the haiku that can result. With topics as varied as toast, whales, hats, cherry blossoms, kites, seashells, and champagne, among others, a delightful selection of haiku emerged, and participants shared several of them. After the workshop, the usual meeting format of sharing and critiquing our haiku finished off the meeting, with Michael as facilitator. This was a unique meeting in that the library had advertised it to the public (with posters and on its online calendar of events), drawing four new participants, who we hope will come back. It was also a pleasure to see Seren and Katharine, who have not often been able to attend. Tanya McDonald will facilitate the May meeting, which will be held at the Redmond Library on May 24 and will again be promoted by the library.
