From 1988 to 1995, Haiku Northwest’s founder, Francine Porad, edited the journal Brussels Sprout. Francine had taken over from Alexis Rotella, who started the journal in the fall of 1980. Although Brussels Sprout was independent of Haiku Northwest, it nevertheless reported on Haiku Northwest activities and announced some of its meetings (the group’s first meeting was on September 15, 1988, at the Bellevue Public Library in Bellevue, Washington), and featured many poets from the Pacific Northwest region.
Haiku Northwest is pleased to present scanned versions of all 23 issues that Francine published, with Connie Hutchison as associate editor, along with selected poems and statistical data. We also offer all Editors’ Choice Awards, which appeared in all issues except the first. Select any cover image below to read about each issue and to view a searchable PDF scan of each entire issue. You can also see five favorite poems from each issue chosen by Haiku Northwest members, who also helped to gather statistics for that issue.
