September 2018 Meeting

Post date: Oct 04, 2018 12:0:26 AM

The September Haiku Northwest meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. on September 27, 2018 at the Lake Forest Park Library. Twelve people attended: Terran Campbell, Gary Evans, Cara Izumi, Philaah Jones, Curtis Manley, Tanya McDonald, Millie Renfrew, Arlene Springer, Ron Swanson, Angela Terry, and Michael Dylan Welch, plus Dianne Garcia, who coordinated the meeting. Since we had several new faces, we started with introductions and then announcements. Angie mentioned that 73 people were already signed up for this year’s Seabeck Haiku Getaway, Michael gave us an update on the Haiku Walk sign casting delays (which probably means that installation will not take place in time for this year’s getaway), Dianne discussed Japan Day (October 6) at Bellevue College, and Tanya asked for suggestions on where to hold the next meeting, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 17, instead of our regular Thursday night. After announcements, Dianne led the group in a discussion of season words, using examples of poems from back issues of Frogpond. Then we did a writing exercise using paint chips as prompts with a focus on season words. A few brave souls shared what they had written. Following a short break, those who had brought haiku to share passed them around for reading and critique, resulting in our usual lively discussion. We have no Haiku Northwest meeting scheduled for October, due to the timing of our Seabeck Haiku Getaway, which will be held October 25–28, 2018.
