When I returned to the United States in 2004—after living, studying and teaching in Japan for thirty years—I volunteered to be the secretary of the Haiku Society of America in 2005 and 2006. Also, I appeared as a panelist at the Haiku North America conference in 2005. My haiku appears regularly in Frogpond, Modern Haiku, and The Heron's Nest. I judged the HSA’s Henderson Award for 2007 and wrote an article on “Thoughts on Juxtaposition” for Simply Haiku. My first degree is in Asian studies, second in literature. I join readings with the Tacoma Area Literature Enthusiasts.
