Dejah Léger

Dejah Léger has been writing haiku since 2004. She has published haiku in Frogpond, Acorn, The Heron’s Nest, Modern Haiku, and has received awards for haibun and rengay. Originally from a very small river community in southern Oregon, she now lives in Seattle with her husband and daughter. In addition to being a full-time mom, Dejah writes book reviews and plays music; she is a songwriter and plays traditional French-Canadian music with her husband and his family.

a hint of hazel
in my newborn's eyes
winter night—
the accordion player
pulls up her sleeves
Chinese opera:
her voice
inside my tea cup
trying for a second child—
the crease
in the line-dried sheets
