Haiga Adventure Study Group of Puget Sound Sumi Artists

The Haiga Adventure Study Group is a branch of Puget Sound Sumi Artists (PSSA). The study group was initiated by Fumiko Kimura and Voski Sprague following a presentation by Sam Hamill at the April 2010 PSSA meeting where he discussed Chinese and Japanese poets, his translation of their poems, and his adventure with haiku. That presentation inspired an exhibit of haiga paintings by PSSA members in July 2010. Artists in that first exhibit created haiga using poems by Bashō, Buson, and Issa. Interested PSSA members have continued to learn, and create haiga based on their own haiku. The Haiga Adventure Study Group meets monthly in Tacoma, led by Fumiko Kimura and Voski Sprague. The Seabeck Haiku Getaway has been enjoying haiga and sumi-e exhibits by the Haiga Adventure Study Group since 2012.
