April 2020 Meeting

Post date: Apr 30, 2020 5:13:23 AM

Haiku Northwest held its first Zoom meeting on April 9, 2020, with Michael Dylan Welch as the facilitator. Twelve people attended: Terran Campbell (joining us from Spokane), Gary Evans, Dianne Garcia, Nicholas Klacsanzky, Curtis Manley, Tanya McDonald, Michelle Schaefer, Angela Terry, Kim Weers, Michael Dylan Welch, Garry Wilson, and special guest Terri L. French, who joined us from her RV on the California coast. After introductions and hearing how everyone is coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, Terri treated us to a reading. She shared haibun and senryu from her new, as-yet-unpublished collection, along with senryu from The Color of Bruises and haibun from Keepers. Next, Michael gave a talk called “Going Nowhere: Learning Haiku from Pico Iyer,” which fit well with the current protocol of sheltering in place. To follow our usual meeting agenda, we then did a round of critique, which worked surprisingly well on Zoom. We look forward to conducting more meetings on this platform in the future.
