Meeting Summary for June 26, 2014

Post date: Jul 23, 2014 6:2:33 PM

Present at the June 26, 2014 Haiku Northwest meeting at the Bellevue Library were Ida Freilinger, Roy Kindelberger, Tanya McDonald, Michelle Schaefer, Angela Terry, Kathleen Tice, Richard Tice, and Michael Dylan Welch. Richard Tice was our featured reader, and told us about some of his life story. The first haiku he ever wrote was published in Dragonfly:

heat-born breeze

scarcely stirs the aspen leaves;

motionless fish

He later became coeditor of Dragonfly. Richard spent five years in Japan during two stays there and made Japanese literature part of his degree programs in comparative literature. After his reading, the rest of us enjoyed two rounds of haiku reading. In the first round, we read one haiku each and others commented on the haiku. In the second round, we read three haiku and picked one for feedback.
