On the weekend of June 8 to 10, 2018, Brightwater Center in Woodinville, Washington will host the 2018 annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest region of the Haiku Society of America. Our weekend schedule is now available. It’s free to attend, but lunch is extra—and please register by May 25 to guarantee that a lunch will be available for you (see the registration form). Saturday’s events will have an ecological focus, and will include a guided educational tour of the Brightwater Center wastewater treatment plant. Speakers include Jason Wirth on “Ecology in the Buddhist Tradition,” and various others, including David Berger on salmon ecology, Tanya McDonald with a water haiku workshop, Angela Terry as chief organizer, Richard Tice on ecological haiku from Japan, and Michael Dylan Welch with a presentation on paying attention to our environment and still-life painting as a metaphor for haiku (plus a workshop). Other weekend events include a haiku reading on Friday night, plus brunch on Sunday followed by a haiku walk at Bothell’s funky outdoor art mall, Country Village.
