Emily Kane has been writing haiku since 2019 when she learned about Haiku Northwest through the Haiga Adventure Study Group (affiliated with Puget Sound Sumi Artists). Emily has taught watercolor and sumi painting at community centers and retirement homes throughout the Seattle area, at Shoreline Community College, and for Dale Chihuly’s “Seniors Making Art” program. She enjoys creating haiga and sharing them with other painters and writers. She enjoys attending haiku meetings to meet wonderful poets and learn how to improve her work.
at every turn
the cat’s ear twitches
page by page
solar powered—
the skylight
left open
her smiling eyes
the hieroglyphics
of crows’ feet
summer breeze
in the marina masts
sound of thumb piano
old scarecrow
gives his heart
to the blackbirds
